European group for the study of deviance and social control - Conference - 2009

The University of Central Lancashire Centre for Criminology and Criminal Justice is pleased to announce that the 37th Annual conference of the European Group for the Study of Deviance and Social Control will take place at the University of Central Lancashire on the 26th August 2009 to the 29th August 2009.
This conference will explore the theme of 'Crime' justice and control: The challenge of recession. The theme is divided into 7 streams:
Recession, punishment and the control society
Crime, harm and the political economy
Justice in transition and the alternative justice paradigms
Global freedom, local repressions and diversity
Social divisions and the application of the criminal law
Marginalisation, exclusion and social control
Penal abolitionison and the ontological reality of 'crime'
The 7th stream is dedicated to the life and work of the late Louk Hulsman. Please see the 'Louk Hulsman memorial presentations' page for further information.
The second call for papers, booking forms and abstracts have been issued. Booking and abstract forms can be downloaded from the 'Registration forms' page.
